  • If I Decide To Move My Website To Siteglide Am I Tied Into A Contract?
    Answer
No-one likes being tied down in business; that's why we don't lock our customers into long contracts. We'd prefer you stayed because you love Siteglide, not because you can't leave. So we've made our contracts just 14 days' notice. We think that's more than fair. Customers can benefit from a generous 10% discount if licence fees are paid annually. However, we wish to politely point out that refunds are not available.
Our advice: if you are not sure how long you might need your website for, opt for the monthly plan so you never have to pay for more than 14 days' unused hosting if you should decide to cancel.

  • Why Is A Hosted Solution Better?
    Answer
Hosted web solutions are growing rapidly in popularity. After the recent concerns over server security experienced by millions of Wordpress and Drupal users, many businesses are moving towards fully hosted alternatives such as Adobe Business Catalyst and Siteglide.
Fully hosted systems generally work at two levels: server-side code that renders the website to the browser, and a front-end user-friendly interface that allows the user to create a web page, database item, event or blog post.
Because the server-side engineering is all maintained by Adobe (in the case of Siteglide), business owners don't need to worry about the technology, latest code versions and database protocols.
The recent Heartbleed security violation - which affected millions of OpenSSL users - caused havoc and much alarm; Siteglide was not affected because the Adobe/ Amazon servers were fully protected.

  • Can I ask my web developer to build my site onto Siteglide?
    Answer

Definitely. Most developers will understand how Siteglide works in a jiffy. They will find it a lot quicker and easier to work on than other platforms and development time is drastically reduced as a result. This should mean the development cost is reduced for you.

If your designer/ developer needs any technical help, we're on hand as well as a wealth of information on the Wiki and the Siteglide Video Library.

We find web designers absolutely love Siteglide because of its clever time-saving features. We think you will too.

  • Can I have a Siteglide blog without a website?
    Answer

Yes, indeed. We offer this in two flavours: we can set up the account using one of the many Siteglide design layouts, customise the look and feel to your requirements and then let you self-manage the blog; or you could choose our powerful Inbound Marketing Suite which comprises full set-up (currently free), fresh content creation (we research, write and publish the blog posts for you), Social Media push (we syndicate these posts through to your Social Media accounts), on-site optimisation and then some.

To see an example of our Inbound Marketing at work, see a blog post our writers researched and created for one of our customers. This post was then pushed through to the customer's Facebook, Twitter and GooglePlus accounts and received shares, reTweets and follows.

If you have a decent working website (hosted elsewhere) and you do not want the expenses of having it rebuilt, our Inbound Marketing Suite or stand-alone blog option is ideal.

  • Can I secure private content?
    Answer

Yes, and very easily. You can secure any type of content with Siteglide from a web page, database record or uploaded document. Making an item secure is normally done in just one click.

This feature of Siteglide is extremely powerful. Many businesses need to show different sets of data to different clients/ readers and creating Secure Zones for your audience enables you to do exactly this. Additionally, Siteglide makes a perfect and safe repository for internal data such as client contact details, vehicle fleet records, document management and more.

  • Can I upgrade my plan?
    Answer

Any Siteglide customer can upgrade their plan to access features that are not included in lower plans. Many customers will start off with our BusinessLite package; as business develops and new features are required, it's simply a case of clicking an upgrade button to move onto the higher plan. The monthly licence fee increases in line with the Siteglide features offered. For example, if you find you need to add a database to your brochure website, you would upgrade to our BusinessPro package.

Developer costs may apply, depending entirely on whether you require new layouts building or other development work.

  • I Want To Take Bookings; Can I Do This With Siteglide?
    Answer
Definitely. Adding a bookings or events section to Siteglide is easy. Events can include the number of places/ seats available, for example, which then reduces each time an event is booked. This can be a really good way of creating a degree of urgency as website visitors will see that the event is selling out fast.
We have developed a number of websites that use the Siteglide events module. One example can be found on the TNSEurope website.

  • What Is Adobe Business Catalyst?
    Answer

The Adobe Business Catalyst platform offers superb control and management of websites, database content, CRM, ecommerce and other everyday business tools. Essentially, Adobe BC offers businesses to take far better control of their website and online business at a very reasonable, affordable monthly cost.

Whilst Adobe themselves are not set up to provide direct, everyday support and help to the end user, this is offered via an Adobe Business Catalyst partner, such as Siteglide. We have been an Adobe BC partner in the UK for several years and are also members of the Adobe Business Catalyst Advisory Board.

We look after Adobe BC customers in the UK, Europe and in the US.

Features of Adobe Business Catalyst also include analytics and reporting, membership zones (excellent for intranet sites), email marketing, frequently asked questions modules (ideal for SEO purposes) and events/ booking modules.

In short, Adobe BC allows business owners and marketers to take complete control of their web presence, marketing and analytics - all from a central dashboard. The system is hosted with Amazon Web Services, is extremely secure and uptime is over 99.99%. Unlike other CMS systems, Adobe BC has not been affected by security breaches such as Heartbleed.

  • What Is The Difference Between Siteglide and Adobe Business Catalyst?
    Answer

Adobe Business Catalyst is a very powerful integrated online web management system that combines website, CRM, CMS, database, membership zones, secure intranet, email marketing, reporting and analytics, and ecommerce into one single application. It is primarily intended (and offered) as a website development framework for developers, not end users.

Siteglide includes all of the above features of Business Catalyst but is maintained and supported by UK staff. We have extended and enhanced the basic core offering from Adobe, and indeed continue to do so. An example of this is how we have made website and blog management easier our customers.
We have also accomplished a number of larger projects using APIs and external-server processing, thus allowing the customer to benefit from the power of BC for the everyday running of their website.

  • How easy is it to edit my web pages?
    Answer

If you can use Microsoft Word, you can edit your website with Siteglide. We provide three different ways in which to make changes to your web pages: the superb Adobe inContext editor, a 'wysiwyg' design and HTML view editor and full FTP to a program of your choice such as Dreamweaver.

Our video and tutorials have more detail on this but the best way is to grab yourself a free trial and see for yourself.

  • How good is Siteglide's CMS?
    Answer

As good as they get - really. In fact Siteglide comes with 3 CMS options, depending on the complexity of the edit and the experience/ confidence of the user. Firstly, there's our great IceCube editor. Log in to your admin and manage your website as if you were a visitor; click on content areas and make edits in real-time, click on Publish and you're done. Now that was easy. Next comes the full wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get) editor with design view and HTML (code) view; great for creating new pages, adding blog posts etc. Lastly, and perhaps for the more techy, there's full FTP access so you manage your web pages, templates, layouts, CSS, Javascript in your favourite HTML editor such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Dreamweaver/ CS5/ CS6 or whatever you prefer.

Actually, there's yet another editor in Siteglide which is available from the admin dashboard; it's a file editor and is more for techies and developers - but it's there and it's really quick.

  • I already have a decent website; how can Siteglide help me?
    Answer

Siteglide can help in a number of ways, the most common of which is by using Siteglide as a highly effective Inbound Marketing tool.

You can find more information about this on our blog but simply put, Siteglide acts as a stand-alone enhancement to your website. We offer an Inbound Marketing Suite (IMS) which comprises fresh content creation, on-page optimisation, high quality back-links through to your master site, strong eye-catching calls-to-action, web forms and email marketing.

  • I need content marketing for my website but don't have a CMS, can you help me please?
    Answer

Absolutely. Our Inbound Marketing Suite does just that. Designed with customers like you in mind, the Siteglide IMS combines keyword research, industry sector news and topical comment to create engaging quality content marketing published to your Siteglide blog. We then syndicate this to Social Media channels, thus increasing its reach. By adding strong calls-to-action on your blog pages, we encourage contact from your readership - these enquiries are passed directly to you but are also archived to your CRM (customer relationship manager), a feature of Siteglide. Finally, we can create a regular newsletter (monthly, quarterly, annually) with a summary of your blog news or other custom content (the choice is yours).

  • I need to add video to my website regularly; can I do this with Siteglide?
    Answer

Absolutely - adding video to your website could not be easier with Siteglide. If you want to do this a lot and keep a consistent look and feel to your website's layout, we'd recommend creating Web App items (little database snippets) so you can give the video a title/ name, perhaps a brief description (always good for SEO!) and just upload the file. The video will then always present and play as you would expect. If you prefer you can just grab the Vimeo or Youtube URL and drop that into the Web App item and Siteglide will do the rest. See an example on Fulwell73 (a Siteglide customer).

  • Is Siteglide for me?
    Answer

The answer to this will depend on what you are seeking to achieve and your budget.

  • Is Siteglide good for SEO?
    Answer

SEO is vitally important to businesses and the choice of web hosting platform can be critical to success with Google. Siteglide is extremely SEO-friendly due to the developer/ user having complete control over the HTML coding. Furthermore, Siteglide uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its hosting providers - that's about as good as you can get in the hosting world. We know that Google measures both server response time and page load speed; AWS are very fast.

To rank well on the major search engines websites need to be well-built, have clean coding, good rich content and an 'honest' back-link profile. Our SEO experts have been in the optimisation business for nearly 20 years and understand what it takes to rank well on Google; we can also provide a range of examples.

Many businesses have experienced drops in rankings recently as a result of Google's Penguin and Panda updates; to find out how to overcome this, you may wish to read our SEO Guide 2014.

  • Is Siteglide just a Content Management System?
    Answer

Absolutely not! This is where Siteglide differs so much from other systems. Siteglide is a fully-hosted set of online business management tools which enable business owners to manage customers, enquiries, orders, stock control, special offers, documents, private intranets and so much more. Let's just look at a few examples:-

You need to update the latest version of your stock list, menu, PDF brochure - no problem, Siteglide does this in a click.

You need to give a customer (or company perhaps) private access to an area of your website which the public cannot see. Siteglide is ideal for this.

You'd like to send all your customers a seasonal newsletter, telling them about new offerings coming soon. Yep, Siteglide does this too - but with a difference. When your customers open your newsletter and click on the links, Siteglide tells you who opened it and what actions they took. Smart business tool!

You run a small fleet of vehicles but need to know when each is due for MOT/ service/ VEL renewal. No problem, Siteglide does that too.

Siteglide is all about taking control of your business, online. Link databases to web pages, publish FAQs (like this page), edit content, restrict or enable access, analyse and react to web visitor trends in almost real time. We think that's what most business owners have been waiting for, and now it's here. Why not try it today free and without obligation?

  • Is Siteglide like Wordpress?
    Answer

Comparisons are often drawn between the two but a recent independent survey of website builders/ content management systems ranked Adobe Business Catalyst well ahead of Wordpress. Siteglide is built on the Adobe Business Catalyst core but has been further extended and enhanced by our development team. Wordpress is a very popular Open Source blogging and content management tool but it does come with its own limitations and vulnerabilities. Most developers agree that Wordpress can become problematical as third party plugin applications are added.

WordPress is not a platform that is typically suited to business website development for a number of reasons. For starters, it's quite easy to break and can be extremely difficult to fix, sometimes requiring a complete re-install. This can often lead to lost data, not to mention cost and time. Also, Wordpress has fallen victim of malware and hacking on a number of occasions of late and vulnerabilities still exist. Because no-one actually 'owns' Wordpress, there is no-one to shout at except the web developer when things do go wrong.

Siteglide differs from Wordpress in so many ways. Perhaps the most significant difference is that is built around the Adobe backbone, with a big team of developers, support technicians and programmers to keep it running smoothly. Secondly, the modules within Siteglide are built as part of the same suite of tools - not just add-ons. We see this as possibly its greatest strength.

Wordpress is a great blogging platform but it does need to be kept squeaky clean and up-to-date with the latest patches to avoid unwanted intrusions.

  • My current website doesn't have an intranet. Could you help?
    Answer

Indeed we can. We specialise in secure extranet and intranet and offer this as a stand-alone solution without you needing to change your existing website.

Most commonly we recommend using what is known as a sub-domain (example: secure.yourdomainname.com) which enables us to host the intranet/ extranet on the Siteglide servers while your site stays exactly where it is. Our intranets and extranets are secure and use https:// protocol (much the same as shopping carts on the World Wide Web).

You can use the intranet to store, collate and share documents, files and other material. Access can be controlled according to user privileges, so you could allow (say) directors to have full access to everything, but managers would only be able to access the files you choose. We recently completed a project like this for a national car valeting company so directors and managers can keep tabs on work in progress, vehicle movements and more.

  • Who are Wysi? Are they the same as Siteglide?
    Answer

Wysi are specialist responsive website designers (also based in Berkshire) and are the 'people' (the developers who build your website), whereas Siteglide is the website management software onto which your site is developed/ built. Although two entirely separate companies, Wysi and Siteglide work very closely together in most projects. When we build a new website onto Siteglide the customer pays Wysi for the build (normally a Wysi fixed price small business website package) and Siteglide for the monthly hosting/ licence fee. Wysi also undertake bespoke (non-Siteglide) projects, such as advanced PHP development, MySQL database design and build, API development and other bespoke programming work. Typically, Wysi build around 90% of new websites onto Siteglide. Additionally, Wysi are a specialist Google SEO company with over 35 years' (combined) experience, so your website is built by web developers who understand the search engines and what is required to rank well.

    View individual FAQ
  • Who builds my website on Siteglide?
    Answer

Most of the sites built onto Siteglide are built by our sister company, Wysi of Berkshire. Wysi offer a range of attractively priced website packages which are then built onto the powerful Siteglide platform. Siteglide customers do not have to use Wysi to build the website - you could even build your own site if you wish, but most business owners prefer to let the professionals do the website while they get on with what they do best - running their business. Why not ask your preferred developer to build your new site onto Siteglide?

The Siteglide really handy website import option can be useful when trialling the system - you work on the Siteglide platform as if you were on your own website, so the content is familiar to you. No changes are made to your own live website, of course. However, we recommend all new sites should be fully responsive so they work on all devices and the Wysi packages are ideal for this as they work out far cheaper than re-engineering an existing site.

    View individual FAQ
  • Would I be able to use Siteglide as a document management system?
    Answer

Certainly, and many Siteglide customers do just this. We build secure intranet and extranet systems for many businesses, ranging from a UK Government study group to a large motor claims handling company, as well as charity/ non-profit organisations. Content is secured by SSL (Secure Socket Layer) in the same way as online banking or shopping gateways using https:// rather than http://. Authorised users log in securely, and are given access to data according to their privileges. Different users can be assigned different privilege levels - you choose.

There are number of ways this can be done and the choice will largely depend on the following:-

    the amount of content

    the type of the content

the number of persons requiring access to the content, and

    whether version control is required

We'd normally recommend our Web Apps database for this type of project, so content is created as a database item with the document uploaded as a file belonging to that item. However, the Siteglide platform also includes a media module that allows admins to upload most types of content (MS Word documents, PDF, images, videos, mp3/4 and other file types). Items can be further classified and added to groups to facilitate better internal document management.
